If I may indulge in a bit of self-promotion. Palm Springs Walks is beginning its 2nd season on October 5th, 2002. Here is all the pertinent information.

FOR THE 2ND SEASON RUNNING PALM SPRINGS WALKS ARE HOT!

Palm Springs Walks is gearing up for the start of their second season offering guided walking tours of the city's historic downtown district. Palm Springs has been a gathering place for eclectic and artistic souls for decades.

The two-hour, one-mile leisurely walks tell the stories of pioneers like Nellie Coffman, who started the legendary Desert Inn in 1909; architects like Stewart Williams and Albert Frey who specialized in the Palm Springs Modern style found in many local homes and businesses alike; and, of course, the many celebrities who sought the sun and fun of a city so close to the studios that they could almost commute to work.

Highlights include the bed and breakfast where legendary lovers Gable and Lombard spent their honeymoon, the hideaway inn where they stayed before their marriage and the Plaza Theatre, winter home to Jack Benny's radio hour and now the site of the Fabulous Palm Springs Follies.

You'll hear stories about the Courtship of Harpo Marx, the legend of the Tahquitz witch and how a divorced beat singer named Sonny Bono ended up a Republican in the State Senate. If you've always wondered what drew so many diverse characters to this oasis in the desert, come walk with us!
