Mini-epidemic of teardowns in Van Nuys?

Mini-epidemic of teardowns

Is it just me or are we seeing the beginning of a min-epidemic of tear-downs here in Van Nuys. This property, on my street was the first one I spotted, but I have since seen 2 more with the 10 block area of the house.

These aren't just small houses on major thoroughfares, either. Those homes are always in danger of development into apartment complexes. This tear down is in the middle of a residential block, although it does back up to an apartment complex on Burbank Boulevard.

It is unknown what will arise on this lot. More than likely, though, it will be a McMansion as we are seeing in other parts of the city. I don't envy the neighbor. If I remember correctly, she is one of the last original owners in the neighborhood, going back to 1943/44.

I think the further south one is in Van Nuys, the more likely a teardown is. Anything adjacent to Sherman Oaks.

Yeah, this is just the first sign of "creep" that I started to see recently. After getting Keyes 3-story parking garage in my back yard, I guess I am a little leery.

That said, the parking garage turned out about as good as could be hoped for, at least behind our property. It doesn't cut out as much light as I feared and we actually get less light pollution in the backyard now. Small things, but important.
